Co-curricular & Extra-curricular Activities

Utamaduni Day:

Utamaduni Day is a Kianda School event where we celebrate our African Culture. Students and teachers alike come to school dressed in traditional inspired clothing and jewellery, from different Kenyan and African communities. During this event, every class in both the primary and high school participates by putting up displays and performances. Utamaduni Day helps students to connect with their African heritage as well as learning to appreciate the different cultures.

Creative Arts:

Creative Arts is a school event that is hosted on an annual basis. The students come together in their respective streams to produce a series of items. The events of the day are organized and polished over a number of weeks, leading up to the day itself. Creativity, talent and innovative ideas are all portrayed during Creative Arts.

It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge

Music

Our dynamic Music Department offers a wide array of practical music lessons to ignite your passion for melodies and rhythms. Whether you dream of playing the piano, strumming a guitar, or exploring the depths of your voice, we have the perfect instrument for you.

Our talented instructors provide personalized guidance, helping you master your chosen instrument and develop your musical skills. For those who already possess musical prowess, our High School band and Ensemble provide a platform to showcase your talents and collaborate with fellow musicians. Young maestros in the Primary School can also join our vibrant Ensemble, where they can express themselves through the violin, flute, recorder, or drums.

But that’s not all! We believe in nurturing a love for music at every stage. Our Primary and Junior school choirs offer a chorus of voices, creating harmonious melodies that fill the school with joy.

Clubs

There are numerous clubs in both the primary school and high school sections of the school. These include: Fine Arts, Chess, Choir, Environmental, First Aid, French, Homemakers and Cookery, Kiswahili, Maths and Tax, Public Speaking and Debate, Science and Wildlife. Each club has a chairperson elected by the student club members, and the clubs also run under the supervision and dedication of a staff member who acts as the club matron. All the clubs are aimed at helping the students develop into holistic individuals. Clubs meet weekly for activities, they also attend excursions and competitions during the school year.

Skills developed
Self-Confidence: Achieving success within clubs, whether through completing projects, winning competitions, or taking on leadership roles, boosts self-confidence and self-esteem.

Sports

Keeping active is an important part of a child's development. Each student is assigned a house team colour– one of four– upon admission. Some school sports offered at Kianda include: hockey, basketball, volleyball, tennis, tae-kwo-ndo, swimming, athletics and netball. Competitions for the various sports are held regularly inside and outside the school’s parameters. The sports activities organized by the school include; inter-house competitions, swimming galas, friendly matches and the annual Kianda Family Sports Day. Externally, the various sports teams represent the school in tournaments putting Kianda on county, national and even international maps.

Skills developed
Teamwork and Collaboration: Collaborating with peers on club projects teaches students how to work effectively in a team, compromise, and appreciate diverse perspectives.
