Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta First Lady of the Republic of Kenya and alumna of Kianda School was named Patron of the Kianda School Peperuka Endowment Fund. The ceremony took place at the School during the Peperuka Cocktail reception on Monday 5th August 2013. While appreciating the generosity of parents and staff towards the Fund, the cocktail was also a moment to launch our appeal to the corporate world in Kenya.

Kianda School, a project of Kianda Foundation launched a funds drive three years ago. A cross -section of parents and staff got together and decided to come up with a permanent solution to giving scholarships as a way of celebrating the 50 years of Kianda Foundation – an Endowment Fund whose target is Ksh 100 million. The proceeds of this Fund would allow Kianda to offer scholarships in a sustainable manner, and thus allow many gifted girls to learn and prosper.

The funds drive adopted the name Peperuka for the scheme (Swahili for To Soar Upwards) in the belief that both the scholarship and regular girls would soar upwards in all aspects of their development as a result of this project. As at July 2013 the Fund stood at Ksh 31m and there are 45 girls on scholarship benefitting from the funds raised so far.

The second phase of the fund drive is to invite corporate sponsorship. There are four levels of Corporate Peperuka Sponsorship – gold, silver   bronze and pearl.

  1. The Gold Peperuka sponsorship: Ksh 5,040,000.00. This would educate 6 girls for 4 years.
  2. The Silver Peperuka sponsorship: Ksh 3,360,000.00. This would educate 4 girls for 4 years.
  3. The Bronze Peperuka sponsorship: Ksh 2,520,000.00. This would educate 3 girls for 4 years.
  4. The Pearl Peperuka sponsorship: Ksh 1,680,000.00. This would educate 2 girls for 4 years.
  5. This sponsorship covers tuition, textbooks, uniform, lunch and some transport zones.

All contributions are most welcome and will be acknowledged. Cheques should be made out to Kianda School.

Brand Visibility Opportunities for Corporate Sponsorship

  1. Be named a Peperuka Champion.
  2. Make a long term contribution to developing girls’ education in Kenya.
  3. The company name would be put up in the form of a permanent plaque on the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Board to be displayed in the School Hall.
Benefit: The school has approximately 800 parents and holds parents’ training sessions on Saturdays throughout term 1 and 2. A total of 37 parents’ meetings take place in the two terms. There are also frequent events that bring the larger parent body into the School Hall. This gives regular exposure and visibility to notice boards on display in the Hall.
  4. Display for the Company Logo on the Sponsors Board at the school entrance gate.
Benefit: Over 300 cars drive in and out twice a day, 5 days a week during term time. On weekends when there are parents’ meetings this number is higher. Many non-school events take place over the weekends and holidays at Kianda School, thus giving visibility of the logo to non Kianda School adults.
